Why you should read? Discover the mysteries within my Halloween weekend… Mah ha ha! Also practical steps of how to carve a pumpkin.
Introduction
So I wasn’t going to post specifically for Halloween, but I felt like it only comes round annually, and actually I have a bit more time on my hands than usual.
It was a sunny and bright morning, with nothing especially sinister, except perhaps the odd van cutting me up on the road, whilst I was out cycling.
When I returned, to my amazement, a pumpkin which had been purchased (not collected from a grave or anything too weird), had been carved as pictured above.
For those of you wondering how it happened, I must say I had a seance a few days earlier in which I was contacted by the Halloween goblin, who inspired my creation, conveying to my brain the exact steps followed.
Following a design example that looked suspiciously similar to my creation, thanks digsdigs.com, and the steps below, my pumpkin was mysteriously carved by itself …
How to make
Step 1– Turn the pumpkin upside down, stalk facing downwards.
Step 2– Cut out the lid at an angle.
Step 3 – Remove lid.
Step 4– Scoop out insides using a spoon, scraping around the walls and base, and removing all innards.
Step 5 – Carve your chosen design into the pumpkin. Thanks again digsdigs, link under sources below.
Step 6– Remove any excess bits of pumpkin from blocking the holes using a utensil, perhaps teaspoon.
Step 7– Mount the design on it’s lid. I’ve been told placing the pumpkin this way up prevents it decaying as quickly, showcasing artistic prowess for longer …
Step 8– The most important step. Photograph in a pretty location, edit, and plaster across the internet to your hearts content, to hopefully inspire others.

I like the image of the pumpkin carving itself. That actually makes me want to draw that now. Don’t carve yourself, though, unless you’re a pumpkin 🎃

Carve the pumpkin, yourself is much better advice and glad you like it 🙂 Happy Halloween

Quick little story… a few Halloweens ago I carved a pumpkin with my daughter. She decided she wanted to do something special with the jack o lantern and proceeded to shake and spread cinnamon and nutmeg on the inside of the cut pumpkin, believing that it would scent the thing while it sat out. We placed it on the porch and the strongest scent was the nutmeg. Now I should state, I didn’t think it was such a good idea. We have ground hogs, squirrels, raccoons, and hungry feral cats in our neighborhood. I just knew one of them would take it as an offering. And I was right. Returning home from Wally world that evening, I see that the face of the pumpkin has been mangled. I look around and there by the fence was a large groundhog having dinner with his piece of the pumpkin we carved. 😆 My daughter was bummed but the groundhog had good eats. I left the pumpkin on the porch for it to eat. It looked hideous lol So glad I didn’t stick a candle in there. I had a few little plastic tea lights that flicker for the lit effect. Anyhoo, this post reminded me of that Halloween where we made friends with a skittish groundhog. Happy Halloween 🎃

Thanks man, some of the pattern was hard to cut out tbh. I think a smaller knife helps with the tight corners …
