Introduction

Requiem for a dream is a 2000 Drama, according to IMDb. We however reviewed as a Horror, since the Drama features darker themes, and we would argue it meets the criteria for this genre.

Impact

Whilst the plot develops slowly, it uses music volume well, along with several stories running simultaneously. There are frequent setting changes, yet only impactful, yet brief passages of speech. This has a good effect.

The relationship dynamics add impact to emotional connectedness, between actors and viewer.

Proximity is used effectively, with camera shots implemented, to emphasise facial expressions.

Whilst the movie isn’t listed as a Horror, the themes become darker throughout, and in the end the film has a powerful Horror impact.

Graphic imagery is changed more and more frequently towards the end, which has a striking effect.

Conclusion

“Strong ending as a shocking Horror”.
