Saw 7 and 8 – Thoughts and ratings

“Saw VII is way better”.

With the Saw horror movie series totally new to me, I’ve decided to give my thoughts in prose, for each. I have attested my honest opinion, on what is good and bad, without analysing deeply. This post is more “My thoughts”, rather than a full review …

Today is the turn of Saw 7 and 8.

Saw 7 (VII) My thoughts (8.0/10) (2010)

The opening wasn’t as gory as Saw 6, nor was it as entertaining. The plot felt a little reminiscent, and not overly original. Events were clear to understand, and the graphics had clearly improved by this point. This could be perhaps due to better filming technology, in this later year of production.

The final 40 minutes were the best of the whole franchise, consisting of far more elaborate trials and tribulations.

Overall, the movie was a good one, arguably one of the best.

Jigsaw – Saw 8 (VIII) – My thoughts (6.0/10) (2017)

Saw 8 started in an action sequence, yet lacked the suspense and gore of its predecessors early on. There wasn’t much of a hook either. The end was punchy and rescued the movie to some extent. It possessed several twists, elucidating many mysteries.

Overall, the film was on a lower level as a horror than some of the films prior. It struggled to fit any genre particularly well, which was perhaps the route of its weakness.

Both Saw 7 and 8 (Jigsaw) are worth a watch. Saw VII is way better though. It was a shame the openings of both these movies, were weaker than predecessors.
