Saw 5 and 6 – Thoughts and ratings
“Saw VI is totally worth a watch for the horror fan”.
Introduction
With the Saw horror movie series totally new to me, I’ve decided to give my thoughts in prose, for each. I have attested my honest opinion, on what is good and bad, without analysing deeply. This post is more “My thoughts”, rather than a full review …
Today is the turn of Saw 5 and 6.
Saw 5 (V)- My thoughts (5/10) (2008)
Carnage was immediately present, yet the opening felt a bit less original than in previous films. The plot appeared far more vestigial than in previous instalments. When coupled with a relentless lack of suspense, or tension in brutal moments, this made the film a bit boring. This was a shame since previous films in the series with simplistic plots, have felt more entertaining.
Saw 6 (VI) – My thoughts (8.5/10) (2009)
The opening camera shots and gore level, were at a premium level here. They dwarfed the antecedent movie, with totalitarian dominance.
The plot thickens quickly, yet there are enough lulls in action sequences, to get to grips with it.
The storyline here feels fluid, and works nicely to entertain without confusion. It also is thought-provoking at times, making this film retain far more engagement for me, than its predecessor. Gory effects are a little watered down here after the opening, yet the focus on mystery continues the quality.
The ending wrapped everything up nicely, with sufficient suspense levels.
Conclusion
Don’t bother watching Saw V. Saw VI was a truly engrossing spectacle; Offering mystery and gore in equal measure. Saw VI is totally worth a watch for the horror fan.
