Saw I and II – Thoughts and Ratings
Introduction
With the Saw horror movie series totally new to me, I’ve decided to give my thoughts in prose, for each. I have attested my honest opinion, on what is good and bad, without analysing deeply. This post is more “My thoughts”, rather than a full review …
Saw 1 – My thoughts (8.0/10) (2004)
The film features unusual environments, gore, suspense, and much more.
Characters seem convincing enough, allowing underlying tension to persist well.
Helplessness was a key strength.
Throughout, a complex mystery was steadily unravelled, amongst frequent emotional turmoil, and gore.
A twist occurred at the end, which was nice to see.
Saw 2 – My thoughts (8.5/10) (2005)
Such a macabre opening, sets the scene for a truly juicy horror. It seemed far more psychological than the original. Environments felt scarier, and the storyline felt more elaborate, than the original.
I must say as a horror, it works well. I was enthralled throughout.
The ending had a great twist again, much like in the original.
Perhaps the emotions weren’t quite as believable as the original, yet I preferred the film overall, for entertainment value.
Conclusion
Saw 2 had more setting variation, yet slightly less believable acting. I’d pick that over the original though, due to it’s action being more entertaining.
