Whilst I am enjoying the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, exciting movies still help pass the time. This review makes a change from my usual Horror posts, although features some elements of a good Horror.

The Old Guard is a 2020 (Action/Adventure/Fantasy) movie, available on Netflix as of July 2021.

As a Horror, the start featured gore and somber tones of voice, which promoted a dark feel instantly.

The characters were well established, and made to appear genuine before danger occurred. This allowed the viewer to relate better to character emotions, in subsequent troubled times.

Environments and scenery were frequently changed, to retain viewer interest.

Violence was quick and efficient, which reduced viewer distress, preventing the film being classified as a Horror.

Whilst tension wasn’t built through violence, Action was, which raised the tempo of the story.

The Supernatural frequently featured, and the backstories of the characters were well established. Plot progression slowed however, so the film dragged at times.

The ending had some real Action, and was literally impactful. The ending added the element of closure, despite being fragmented.

“Good concept and conclusion”.
