Packaging

Thatchers vintage cider has a new look for the 2022 vintage year, and increased ABV. How will this affect its quality? Read on to find out …

The bottle was purchased for £2.60 from the coop provides 4.2 units from 500ml at 8.3% ABV. This was expensive compared to similar strength drinks.

The bottle states “aged for mature character” using the finest bittersweet apples. To judge I’d expect something pretty unique here.

The blend of gold image and text along with traditional fonts on an off white background, lends itself to traditional values quite well.

The cider whilst a little strong for optimum practicality, is only slightly over the governments old recommended safe consumption levels for adult males.

Taste expectations from bottle

The bottle suggests full flavour, medium dryness, with a tangy and moderate carbonation to finish.

Smell

Lasted for a short duration. Was natural and sweet.

Taste

Acidity level balanced well with fruity sweetness. Sweetness level was a little low, since acidity came through stronger. The balance of the drink created character, along with the warmth it left in my mouth. The flavour was full and natural. The drink was nicely session-able. It had a pleasant medium mouthfeel and was well balanced.

Aftertaste

Pleasant Smooth and fruity aftertaste.

Summary

“Good all rounder”.
